A recent article on Man Repeller looked at a group of people who have ditched the traditions of Christmas family time and instead focus on doing exactly what they want to do with their Christmas holiday time. For some that meant volunteering and spreading Christmas cheer by giving back. For others it was spent with friends who had become their family in a new city. For one couple in particular, each year their Christmas was dedicated to their relationship and simply enjoying one another’s company.
We think Mariah got it right when she sang “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and that this season, more than any, is about spending quality time with loved ones and letting them know how how feel.
Relationships aren’t as linear as otherwise portrayed in Christmas songs, movies or on social media. Christmas is the one time of the year when work shuts down for almost everyone, meaning that there’s no temptation to check in with the office as may occur during alternative holidays taken through the rest of the year. Obligations to check your phone in general are severely minimised. Instead, Christmas presents the ideal opportunity to lap up some real, quality time with your partner. Plus, all that festive cheer sets the perfect atmosphere for a little romance.
So enjoy time spent with your significant other this Christmas and indulge in the ultimate wintery dates for the duration of the holiday. And if you’re single? Well then grab your mum, nan or bestie and let them know they’re appreciated.
