2019 Beauty Forecast

The Style Edit focuses on some of the biggest beauty trends and freshest looks for 2019.

Perfectly Undone
Forget about looking über groomed, the best of 2019’s beauty looks revolve around a relaxed styling. Brushed out curls, half-wet waves, flyaways and slightly smudged makeup – there’s a playful vibe at work that feels fresh and very wearable.

Nailed It
In contrast to the stripped-back hair and makeup on the runways nails went all-out extra. From orbit nails at Jeremy Scott to Victorian style nail art at Libertine, graffiti nails at Nicole Miller and animal print at Opening Ceremony, it was a definite case of more is more. For a day-to-day block colour navy is the tone du jour and if you’re looking for something more natural then opt for sheer glitter nails as seen at Kate Spade.

Pink Hair Hues
Pastel hair tones are set to be as popular as ever this year but while lilac may have dominated in 2018 it’s now time to be pretty in pink. Rose gold locks were spotted at Marc Jacobs but for L’Oréal Professional Editorial Ambassador, Adam Reed it’s all about smokey pink. Describing the shade he said: “Smokey pink is a grown-up version of pink hair and is soft and sooty with smoky, sophisticated undertones – it’s cool and definitely not flat. If you also add a cool grey root to smoky pink it suits most skin tones and gives pink hair a modern, almost elegant, update too.”

Molten Metals
For full impact, minimum effort add a flash of metallics to either lips or eyes. At Jeremy Scott makeup artist Kabuki used a combination of MAC Dazzleshadow Liquid in Love Yourself and MAC Glitter in Pink on models’ lips to create a rose gold foil effect while the eyes had it at Tom Ford with dazzling amethysts and glossy bronzes. Pair with glowing skin and keep everything else pared back.

Just Browsing
Eyebrows continue to look natural and unstructured. Fluffy and face-framing, nearly all the designers went for a ‘no makeup makeup’ look with products lightly applied then brushed out for a soft, flattering effect. Get the look with a brow pencil, spoolie and a little cream highlighter.

The Gloss
There has been an emphasis on matte mouths in recent seasons but finally gloss is making a comeback. Perfectly in keeping with the new season’s low maintenance look, lips were left unlined and simply slicked with a dash of gloss to give a healthy sheen. If you need a little colour then sheer plums and berry tints should be your go-to.
