It pays to do your research – invest in the right pair of boots and they could see you all the way through to several seasons ahead. Get a head start on the newest boot trends for autumn/winter 2018 with these five key styles worth adding to your wardrobe ASAP.

Updated Western

Oh how our creative, fashion-loving hearts swell with joy at news that western-inspired cowboy boots have survived another season.

Having made several notable appearances in previous seasons, this season brings an entirely new sweep of styles available to shop. For the real deal scour your local vintage shops, bat those pretty eyelashes at said vintage shop’s sales assistant and hope they’ll keep you in mind when the perfect pair land on their doorstep in your size. If time isn’t on your side (or patience isn’t something you possess a mass amount of) high street heroes Office, Mango and Topshop clearly got the cowboy boot memo and truly delivered on the trend.

Slouch Boots

Up until now the spotlight has shone brightly upon sock boots, chelsea boots and our beloved, over-the-knee boots. This season, tying in with our love of the 80s, sees a not-so-new boot trend making an impressive comeback to the stage – the slouch boot.

The slouch boot made its presence on the runway loud and clear appearing in varying heights, colours, prints and fabric styles. While it may initially have seem an outdated route for designers to go, paired with everything from midi dresses, pleated skirts, jeans and our favourite blazer dresses the shoe soon shows its true colours as the perfect partner in crime this season.

White Boots

Few fashion influencer’s feet escaped the white boot trend last year and to the relief of many, it’s back with a bang for autumn/winter.

As WWD Style Director, Alex Badia proclaimed at the NYFW Samsung x WWD Style Dimensions event series, “Once you put a white boot on, it’s a trap. Everything looks good with a white boot.”

The perfect compliment to fast approaching plaid trends, colour blocking beauty trends and to be totally honest, a breath of fresh air among a sea full of black, the white boot is one trend train we highly recommend you hop on to.

Lace Up Boots

First impressions place these boots in the clumsy and exceedingly chunky category. In reality, that’s half the fun.

Take the 90s nostalgic, grunge style in your stride with slim-fit jeans, a white t-shirt and a trusty biker jacket or challenge yourself, break out of your comfort zone and call in your most feminine fabrics, prints and dresses to take the trend to the next level.

Knee High

When you tire of trialling this season’s borrowed trends from the 80s (never), slip into another style era and embrace the knee-high boots of the 70s. Glamorous and potential to serve up some of the edgiest looks, knee high boots are a shoe staple necessary to survive the season ahead – sartorially speaking, of course.

Pair with skinny jeans and chunky knits for an effortless daytime look but come evening, be prepared to ramp things up a notch with a dose of drama from mini skirts and fur coats. Bonus points for those that brave the snake print or burgundy styles, finished with a classic trench.
