For most of us, our lives are relatively compartmentalised. Monday to Friday, we work. As for Saturday and Sunday, these are the designated fun days. Now read that schedule back. On second thoughts, that’s not the kind of life we’d like to sign up to and actually, we’re ready to have fun every day of the week, especially if it involves hanging out with our significant other.
Sure our time may be more limited and for those that work full time, energy levels aren’t quite the same as our Saturday night buzz but organising a midweek date night is the perfect opportunity to shake things up from your usual Netflix binge. Beat the humpday slump with these weeknight date ideas sure to add a little pizazz to your love life without leaving you feeling exhausted for work the next day.
Go for a run
The couple that works out together, stays together, right? Embrace your competitive streak along with all those endorphins and make the most of the approaching brighter evenings by going on a run. Should the weather go against you, why not try a new fitness class? Ditch the usually torturous spin class and find a fitness challenge you can both get stuck in to.
Make the most of discounts
The joy of the midweek date night is taking advantage of the various deals and discounts available. We all know that come Friday night, these same deals will be completely unheard of. Many cinemas run promotional events in line with various phone networks so it’s worth checking in with the perks available with your own network to lighten the financial load of the stereotypical date night.
Hit up your favourite burger joint
Burger joints and food trucks get a bad rap but we really we shouldn’t be so quick to judge. Although some of the best burgers in town may be made much faster than a Michelin star three-course meal, a trip to Five Guys is a real treat on a Tuesday night. Usually reserved for Saturday nights, dinner for two is a much fancier occasion. Without concerns of work the next day, we often dedicate weekend dinner dates to somewhere more indulgent to make the most of the evening but when you’re short on time during the week, hungry and far too tired to cook, you’ll appreciate a sneaky trip to your favourite burger joint.
Go to the arcade
There’s no better way to shake off the day’s stress than acting like a little kid with your partner. Next time you’re in need of weeknight date inspiration, blow off some steam old school style at the arcade. A little competition is sure to spice up your dating life and will totally take you out of your work rut. Up the ante with the loser buying dinner.
Go to a comedy night
Comedy can be such a subjective thing but the laughter is infectious. If you and your date both love to laugh, bond over a shared sense of humour and watch the sparks fly. It’s also a great opportunity to support local talent by heading to your local comedy hotspot for the evening.
Try a new recipe at home
By the end of the workday, many of us are just ready to be in our own homes again. With the possibility of heading out for dinner off the cards, why not take on the challenge of trying out a new dish with your S.O? With the obvious bonus of not having to leave the house, you’ll also enjoy the delicious leftovers to take to the office the next day.
There’s a real sense of achievement to cooking a delicious meal from scratch and it’s an intimate yet practical way to spend quality time with your partner. There’s the freedom for it to be a collaborative project or for one party to show off their culinary skills to another. For new couples, cooking at home provides a much more relaxing environment than a restaurant, making it much easier to get to know each other. Sometimes you’ve got to ditch fancy expectations for date night and simply stay in and reconnect with your partner over some good food.
