Former Love Island Star, Sophie Gradon Dies Aged 32

Sophie Gradon, former Love Island contestant and former Miss Great Britain has died aged 32.

Sophie participated in the ITV2 dating series back in 2016 prior to which she had competed and been crowned Miss Newcastle and Miss Great Britain in 2009.

Taking to Facebook, Sophie’s boyfriend, Aaron Armstrong broke the news with a photo of the star grinning, accompanied with a heartfelt message saying: “I will never forget that smile. I love you so so much baby. You’re my world forever ever and always”.

Both Caroline Flack, presenter of Love island and the markers of the programme, currently in the midst of the latest series, expressed their condolences of the former contestant’s sudden death.

The statement from Northumbria Police reads: “At about 8:27pm yesterday (20 June) police attended a property in Medburn, Portland, where sadly a 32-year-old woman was found deceased.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A report will now be prepared for the coroner.”

Messages of condolences, sadness and shock have been flooding in on social media since news broke of Sophie Gradon’s death, including those from fellow Love Island contestants from her series. Olivia Buckland described her as a “beautiful, beautiful woman” with a “one in a million smile”. Olivia also stated in a tweet, “You were such an intricate, creative, intelligent soul. Words fail me.”

In a separate tweet she continued: “You helped us through so much. Your smile was one in a million. The world failed. I send all my love and my thoughts to you today. To your family and to your loved ones. I cannot work out what to say. RIP you beautiful, beautiful woman. I’m so lucky to have met you. #stayshapey”

Olivia’s fiancé and Love Island contestant alongside both Olivia and Sophie wrote, “We had lots of little chats and so many laughs, you were the shoulder to cry on and a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. Shine bright in that sky, Sophie Gradon.”

In the wake of her tragic death, Love Island fans are remembering Sophie’s time in the villa. Most prominently, when she was crowned Miss Love Island 2016 during which she delivered a speech defending her co-star, Zara Holland who left the villa following the news that she had lost her Miss Great Britain crown. The removal of the title came following objection from the pageant’s bosses with regards to Zara’s sexual behaviour while on the show. Sophie’s impassioned speech in Zara’s defence left the men in awe and the women cheering in support from the balcony.

While Love island fans have questioned whether the show should be cancelled tonight in tribute to Sophie, ITV has stated the show will be going ahead as planned.

As tributes to Sophie continue to pour in, it’s clear she touched many hearts and leaves behind a lasting legacy.
