Stock the bar cart with essentials
First things first, let’s get the alcoholic refreshments in order, though non-alcoholic cocktails will be just as popular in tying into your summer soiree theme. You may want to kick things off with a light summer bubbly or maybe some white wine but if you’re ready to pull out all the stops, style your bar cart with all of the essentials from fancy glassware, a hint of floral decor, cocktail tools and all of the must-have spirits and mixers to help your cocktails go down a treat.

Prep your menu
The best part of a summer soiree is the chilled out, relaxed nature. No longer is there pressure to prep a five-course meal including cheese boards, cocktails and fancy desserts nobody can pronounce. Although let’s keep the cocktails in the mix for now at least.
While this removes a lot of preparation stress it’s still important to plan out your appetizers while also adjusting food options where necessary to meet the dietary requirements of your guests. Serve it in style with light healthy bites, food that’s easy to eat and creates little mess. Think mini sliders, skewers, salsa and tortilla chips. You could always set up a build your own burger station to keep things entertaining with mess limited to one area.
Throw together bits and pieces like charcuterie and cheese board and treat guests to a traditional Eton mess with fruit and toppings aplenty.
Get creative with the decor
The joy of a summer soiree is that you can go for the simple but chic, rustic vibes. Fresh linen blankets, a few fairy lights and summer seating thrown around is ideal for hosting an unforgettable summer soiree. Lighting is everything and nothing quite creates an ambience like that of a few candles and lanterns placed around the back garden as the sunset and the falls to dusk. Keep blankets and heaters on hand so that come evening, the party can keep on going. If you’re willing to really go all out, build a (safe) fire pit and toast the evening with marshmallows and smores melted on the fire.
Keep the fun alive
What’s a summer soiree without a few tunes and activities to keep the mood up? Suss out your playlist ahead of time whether that’s through Spotify’s offerings or creating your own. In terms of games, let’s keep things old school and crack out the Jenga, card games and lawn games reminiscent of childhoods past. Nothing like a bit of competitiveness to get a party going.
All in all, summer is about letting your hair down and enjoying time spent with friends so relax, take it easy and take the pressure off as much as you can while hosting a summer soiree for friends over the next few months.
