Glenda Gilson is a name we all associate with fashion and style. Having built a career from modelling to TV presenting as an anchor and presenter on Xposé, Glenda is now introducing a range of delicate and elegant jewellery in gold, rose gold and sterling silver: G by Glenda Gilson. THE STYLE EDIT Editor Jenny Taggart interviews Glenda on her latest venture.
Congratulations on your new jewellery business! What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture?
I’ve always wanted to create something that I love and that others love. Jewellery is a no brainer for me. I’ve always been a big fan of simple, delicate pieces and I’ve always loved to layer each piece and mix metals. Jewellery is a great way to express yourself or to show your individual style. Anyone and everyone can wear and admire jewellery – as it fits all! I find because of what I do (working on television), people regularly ask me about the different pieces I wear, such as my necklaces and bracelets. I wanted a collection that was durable, versatile and affordable – and I think I’ve achieved my goals with G by Glenda.
What’s your favourite piece from the G by Glenda collection and why?
The Fairy has to be my favourite piece because fairies are full of mischief and divilment, a bit like myself! They also bring magic and charm. I love the Fairy with the star pendant from G by GG
Tell us about a project or an accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
Getting through life in the media and also working on Xposé. As a company we’ve been through so much over the past 11 years and we’re still here and stronger than ever.
If you had a chance to start your career over again, is there anything you would do differently?
I don’t think I would change it too much as it’s been a fun and eventful ride. I would change other elements in my life but I’ll keep those to myself.
What’s is the best aspect of being a TV presenter?
Getting to sit down with some of the most influential people in the world and hear their story – even if it is only for 5 minutes.
Do you ever miss being anonymous?
I feel like I am anonymous! I will tell you this though, I go out a lot without any make up, looking like a wreck and people seem to recognise me more strangely!
When have you been most satisfied in your life?
When I’m with my family. They have never let me down and are always there for me through thick and thin. I don’t know what I’d do without them and actually couldn’t imagine life without them.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Treat others how you would like to be treated. Wise words from my Mom.
What are your thoughts on the whole blogger / influencer industry that’s huge right now?
I admire and follow some, and then others make me laugh. They’re getting away with it so they must be doing something right!
Who is your role model and why?
I admire Victoria Beckham. She’s taken over the fashion world when others laughed and said she’d never do it. She’s a style icon, a great mother and an understanding wife.
You have an incredibly toned physique, how do you stay in such great shape?
I’m lucky that I have a good metabolism. My brother is 5 years older than me and he’s the same – to this day I’ve never seen him look anything but as strong as an ox and he doesn’t go to the gym either!
Name three beauty products you swear by?
Pestle & Mortar Hyaluronic Serum
L’occitane en Provence Creme Divine
Iconic Bronze – Light Shade Tan
What would you say is your ‘superpower’?
I’m quite perceptive. I tend to see things that others might miss.
If you could become invisible for one day, what would you do?
I’ve always said I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the Jolie-Pitt household. I’d love to see what they’re like as a family, but because they are sadly no more I’d love to snoop around Buckingham palace – who doesn’t want to know more about The Royal family?!
Who is your favourite style icon?
I’ve always loved Kate Moss. Every time she steps out she amazes me with her style choices.
What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had?
I’ve travelled all over the world, but I have to pick our honeymoon. We headed away for 3 weeks starting in Las Vegas, then flew to Cabo and then on to Miami. It was madness, we needed another holiday after it!
The best friend?
I’ve got a few, thank goodness! Girls and guys that have been in my life for years and years. I don’t think we could even try to unfriend each other at this stage.
Instagram or Snapchat?
I love them both for different reasons, but I have to go with Instagram.
Facebook or Twitter?
I’ll go with Facebook as all my real mates are on there.
Favourite bar and tipple?
9 Below, in Stephens Green, Dublin. The drink would have to be a cold Peroni.
Favourite city in the world?
New York New York – so good they named It twice!
