My Fashionable Life With Oh So Femme

Local influencer, Ashlee Coburn (@ohsofemme) is all about making style her own. Her Instagram feed is dedicated to a life of style and long-time followers will recognise the individuality in her style through the various styling tips and tricks she lets us all in on to make a trend her own. Here Ashlee talks us through her fashion inspirations, the root of her creativity and the secret behind nailing petite fashion.

How did you first get into fashion?

I’ve always loved fashion from a very young age. My mum always dressed my sister and I in matching outfits and I hated it. I didn’t even like my mum buying me clothes because even from a very young age, it was apparent that we had both very different tastes.

Tell us about your first fashion-related memory

I remember watching fashion shows and looking at the models in their extravagant dresses in primary school. I loved drawing them in their outfits so I started to draw my own outfits.

Do you try to incorporate a particular outfit formula when styling day to day outfits?

My day to day outfits are just whatever I am feeling that day, some days it’s a nice loungewear set but I always try and make sure I accessorise with a quirky bag and a pair of sunglasses for day outings.

What are your top styling tips for petite girls?

High waisted jeans, I love my mom jeans.  A pair of heels is always a (5ft) petite girls best friend. I really love platform trainers this season too. The reality is, as long as you wear your clothes with confidence, then you’re nailing it.

“As long as you wear your clothes with confidence, then you’re nailing it.”

Has your approach to fashion changed since becoming a mum?

I feel like I do have to be a little more reserved with my fashion at times, as an example to my daughter, but I still try to maintain my own personal style while keeping it up key. My mum nights off when I’m out are when I allow myself to be a little more risqué.

What does fashion mean to you?

It keeps me happy and sane. It allows me to express a little bit of creativity in my appearance and like with most people, I feel more confident in myself when I look good.

What’s the most sentimental item in your wardrobe?

I have a piece of jewellery from my granny, a very thin gold wedding band that belonged to her mother again. I never take it off. It means so much to me having such a precious piece of history with such sentimental value

Tell us about the best shopping tip you’ve learned along the way

Always wear tan. I’ve learned that a nice tan will encourage me to spend, spend, spend because I feel slimmer and more confident in my clothes with tan on. Oh, and always bring a belt with you. It can completely alter the way an item fits on you.

Who or what excites you most about the fashion industry?

I love LFW. I love all of the creativity at every show, every year as well as the style of all the fashion influencers attending these shows. I am constantly stalking all the style at LFW and love the inspiration it gives for new upcoming trends.

What’s your go-to confidence-boosting outfit?

Mom jeans and a lovely top with heels.

What’s one fashion rule you live by? Do you have a fashion mantra?

Dress to suit yourself and not to please other people. Dress in what you feel confident in. Most of all, just do you because no-one else can.

“Dress to suit yourself and not to please other people.”

Favourite high street shop?

Zara without a doubt

Favourite designer?

This year its J.W Anderson

What are some pieces in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?

‘Barely there’ Heels because I am 5’1”, sunglasses and a good pair of mom jeans.

Who would be your dream brand to work with?

I would love to work with Zara but unfortunately, they don’t work with influencers at the moment. I would also love to do a ‘Design my own collection’ collaboration with In The Style.

Describe your style in three words

Versatile, fashion-forward and chic

Who influences your style the most?

I don’t have anyone in particular. I get my inspiration from catwalk shows and other fashion influencers, taking inspiration from lots of different places and putting my own spin into it.
