Beauty takes many forms, varying greatly across different time periods and cultures, creating vast differences in how beauty is perceived around the world. This idea is one that’s always held a prominent position within the values of the team at Make Up Pro Store, headed by one of Northern Ireland’s most successful makeup artists, Paddy McGurgan. Having previously launched their very successful and incredibly thought-provoking mental health campaign last year, Paddy and his team at Make Up Pro Store are launching their search for ‘Real People, Real Beauty’ in the Derry/Londonderry area.
Today, we live in an online era in which images are re-touched and filtered, and for many of us this has subconsciously depicted a concept of what is beautiful. ‘Real People, Real Beauty’ is about Make Up Pro Store’s ongoing mission to create a more positive and realistic mindset around the subjective perception of what is beautiful. It’s about getting people to think more positively about what ‘beauty’ really means to them.
Speaking about the campaign Paddy said: “The aim is to show that beauty is not just about the way you look; it’s as much about your confidence, charisma and character. Yes, there are ways we use make up to create subtle or powerful statements, but beauty truly comes from within.”
“The aim is to show that beauty is not just about the way you look; it’s as much about your confidence, charisma and character.”
“What one person finds beautiful may not appear beautiful to another, so it is therefore not possible to judge beauty objectively. Fashion icon Coco Chanel famously said, ‘beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself’, and I truly believe that.”
Beauty is inclusive and has no limitations, so Paddy and his team want to encourage Derry people to celebrate individual beauty, whether you are nominating yourself or someone else. This campaign will take you on a journey of self-empowerment, showing you how to be happy in your own skin. Adopting a body positive perspective has been shown to not only improve self-confidence and happiness but works towards redefining the narrative of what beauty is.

Paddy along with his team want to keep the conversation evolving and encourage as many people as possible to get involved.
