What a week it’s been with all this sunshine. Lunch breaks and long evenings spent soaking up as much sunshine as possible, a dramatic shift in mood as passers-by whistle their way to work and a sea of floral maxi dresses further than the eye can see. But even as we squeeze as much as a vitamin D fix into our working day as we can, it’s never quite enough. Now with the weekend in sight and an abundance of free time, we’re ready to embrace as many spring inspired activities as the sunshine will allow. Need some inspiration? Gather up your gal pals, friends and family and give these ideas below a go.
One of life’s simple pleasures is taking a book, settling into a booth at your local coffee shop and getting lost in the world of another on a quiet Saturday morning. Now that spring has arrived and summer is on the horizon, that coffee shop booth is upgraded to a seat outside, cosy cappuccinos swapped out for iced caramel macchiatos and don’t even get me started on the people watching opportunities. Whether with a friend or on a solo trip, summer time coffee dates make for the perfect way to unwind at the weekend.
Visit your local farmer’s market
With the arrival of spring comes an abundance of fresh, vibrant produce and lively food markets where these are sold. Open your eyes to the wide variety of food products available from different cultures throughout the world while also paying tribute to farmers working hard closer to home. Taste test samples until your heart is content and fill your mind (and basket) with plenty of summer recipe inspiration. Plus, it’s fun for all the family as the kids can traipse around taking in the mass variety of food, activities and products going on around them.
Go to a rooftop bar
At last, the time has come for your favourite bars to open up their rooftop sections and bring out the best of their cocktail menus. Not only can you enjoy a refreshing drink in the sunshine but take in the views of the city of below. As the weather starts getting even better (and more reliable) a lot of the local rooftop bars start running outdoor cinema nights too which makes catching up with friends during the summer time even better.
Take a walk in the park
Heading to a local park or grounds for a walk is one of the best free activities out there but is made even better during the spring and summer because of the blossoming flowers and better weather. At this time of year, you can take a breezy walk and enjoy the weather without the worry of breaking a sweat. On particularly sunny days why not pack up a picnic and bring it with you, settle in for the afternoon and soak up those rays? Just don’t forget your sunscreen. Even when temperatures aren’t too hot the sun is still emitting harmful UV rays.
Cook up a storm
That farmer’s market shopping spree you went on? Get ready to cook up a storm and impress your friends. Barbecue season is upon us and we’re ready to make the most of dining al fresco. Enjoy the food and the company that makes you happy. And when the sun goes down, embrace the big kid within you and get those marshmallows ready for toasting. Plus all cleanup duties are kept to a minimum, win, win all around.
